ABOUT THE BLOG
Back in 2014, I decided to write a personalized cookbook for my boyfriend (now husband) Chris. I started cooking my favourite recipes and took pictures of almost every home-cooked meal. It was supposed to be a birthday gift but took me almost a year to finish (55 recipes!) so it turned into a Christmas gift. After finishing his little cookbook, my family and friends were asking me about the recipes and everyone wanted to get their own personalized cookbook. As a result, I thought it would be fun to start my own blog. I was also inspired to start Lemon Thymes as a creative outlet to make more time for some of the things I enjoy most. Over the last few years, I’ve been so busy that I often forgot to make time for myself or I kept postponing things: “I’m going to cook tomorrow.” … “I’m going to finish sewing this dress next month.” … and so on – you get the idea! Although I really enjoy cooking from scratch, it’s just so SO tempting to get takeaway on the way home instead of making the time to cook after a busy day at work. But then, when I do have the time, I love the whole process: the cooking itself, the get-together with good conversation, a glass (*cough* bottle) of wine, and – of course – the eating part. Actually, cooking and sewing were the two things that kept me sane while completing my Ph.D. (and wine… lots of it!). On this blog, my main focus is on food since it’s still waaay quicker to cook a meal from scratch than to sew a garment from scratch BUT there will be plenty of sewing projects along the way.
ABOUT THE RECIPES
All recipes fall into at least one of these three categories:
- Healthy Food: Plant-based recipes using fresh ingredients.
- Quick & Easy Food: Recipes that require 30 minutes or less to prepare.
- Comfort Food: Healthyish recipes that everyone loves.
I believe in recipes that inspire you to cook from scratch (not complicate your busy life!). That’s why most of my recipes are quick and easy to prepare in under 30 minutes using simple ingredients that you are likely to have in your pantry. Most recipes are vegetarian, with options to make vegan and/or gluten-free versions by omitting or substituting individual ingredients. All of my recipes are labeled with easy-to-navigate food and nutrition labels BUT the information provided should be considered an approximate value and only be used for reference purposes.
