The Ultimate Pencil Skirt by Sew Over It is such a beautiful little sewing project and I love the end result. Happy Sewing!
The Ultimate Pencil Skirt by Sew Over It was on my list for quite some time. I’m currently looking into sewing patterns that are suitable for work outfits. The dress code in my lab is quite casual and no one really cares what you look like as long as you get your research done… BUT… I’ve got a few conferences and talks coming up and I would like to stock up my closet with a few more outfits to choose from (you can never have too many clothes, right?!).
I had the sewing kit for the Ultimate Pencil Skirt lying around for a while and last weekend I finally got around to make it. I really don’t know why I waited that long because the end result is just gorgeous. The skirt is high-waisted and ends just below the knee (love it!) with a kick pleat at the back. Overall, it’s very flattering. Yay!
It’s recommended to use medium to heavy weight woven fabrics for the Ultimate Pencil Skirt. One of the reasons I ordered the kit (besides the lovely vintage packaging!) was that I really liked the black/blue/green tartan it came with (… along with thread, iron-on interfacing, concealed zip, instruction booklet, and sewing pattern!). Honestly, I love everything about this skirt: the fabric, the colour, the fit. EVERYTHING. This pattern is definitely a keeper. It’s a great wardrobe staple and I will make it again.
I would say that this sewing project is for advanced beginners. You will need to know how to sew darts and an invisible zipper. Otherwise, the pattern is pretty straight forward and the instructions are easy to follow. If you are looking for a pencil skirt sewing pattern, I would definitely recommend this one!
